Kingfisher says nearly 50% of sales are sustainable

Kingfisher said nearly half of its sales are products which are either sustainable or deliver sustainable benefits to its customers.

The firm behind Screwfix and B&Q has announced an update on its bid to curb emissions and other green measures, in its latest Responsible Business report.

Key highlights include that its scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions reduced by 62% since 2016/17, exceeding its 2025/26 science-based target while its scope 3 emissions reduced by 41.6% per £m of turnover since 2017/18.

Kingfisher also said over £6.4bn of group sales now come from Sustainable Home Products (SHPs), amounting to nearly half (49.4%) of total sales.

Kingfisher defines Sustainable Home Products (SHPs) as those which can help to lower environmental impact and have features that are sustainable and/or deliver sustainable benefits to our customers.

Kingfisher also around that it had invested £6.1m in community projects in 2023/24, reaching 3.2m people since 2016/17.

Kingfisher CEO Thierry Garnier said: “Leading our industry in responsible business and energy efficiency is an important part of our ‘Powered by Kingfisher’ strategy. While we still have a journey ahead, I’m pleased that over the last year we have made strong progress on many of our targets.

“This includes significant steps towards our ambition to reach net zero emissions in our operations by 2040, as well as further reductions in our Scope 3 emissions. Scope 3 is a critical challenge for all retailers, one which we are working to tackle through innovation and collaboration with vendors and the wider industry.”

Earlier this month, Kingfisher rolled out new decarbonisation targets for vendors, as the retail giant looks to “tackle climate change”.
