Coca-Cola partners with Merlin Entertainments on recycling initiative

Coca-Cola has teamed up with Merlin Entertainments to offer a number of exclusive experiences at some of the UK’s best-known family attractions as part of a wider recycling initiative.

The initiative, now in its third year, sees visitors being rewarded with offers including a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of Legend of the Trebuchet or a private history tour at Warwick Castle in exchange for recycling their 500ml plastic bottles in the on-site reverse vending machine.

The vending machines will be available across 11 Merlin attractions, including Alton Towers, Legoland, Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures, from 1 July to 6 September 2024.

This year’s vending machines have a ‘vibrant new look’ to make them really stand out as the place to recycle used bottles.

Coca-Cola Great Britain marketing director Elodie Peribere said: “We share Merlin’s passion for entertainment and goals for sustainability.

“Throughout the summer, guests at Merlin attractions will be able to recycle their plastic bottles using our reverse vending machines. We’re excited that, as well as being in with the chance to win some incredible VIP experiences, they’ll be helping us with our goal to recycle the equivalent of every can and bottle we produce.”

In January this year, Coca-Cola stripped labels from on-the-go Sprite and Sprite Zero products in a limited trial of ‘label-less’ packaging.
